Interpretation of Arbitral Award 


What s the deadline to ask the tribunal to interpret its award? 

Once receiving an award, a party has 30 days to request the tribunal for an interpretation of its award, after informing the other parties. 



Whats the deadline for the tribunal to reply to the request for an award interpretation?

Once the tribunal receives the party’s request for an award interpretation, the tribunal has 45 days to give an interpretation of the award in writing.

Is the interpretation part of the award? What should be included in the interpretation?

The interpretation shall form part of the award.

General requirements for awards should apply as follow:

  • In writing

  • final 

  • binding on the parties. 

  • Signed by the arbitrators and the reason for an arbitrator's failure to sign if any. 

  • Private

  • Dated 

  • Place of arbitration. 

  • Reasons unless the parties agreed otherwise.

  • Communicated to the parties
